Uppsala is the capital of Uppsala County and is located one hour away by train or car from the capital, Stockholm. The city is the best place for businesses, especially in consulting and service.
As one of the four big cities in Sweden, Uppsala is often referred to as a city of education, science, history and culture, and is the site of Uppsala University, the oldest university in Scandinavia. The school has a reputation for natural science in the world and has produced eight Nobel Prize winners.
There are also the Linne Museum and the 13 century Catholic church, where Gustav Eriksson Vasa and Carl von Linne (Carolus Linnaeus), the famous botanist, are buried.
Climate
Uppsala has a temperate subarctic climate with long cold winters and is under short hours of sunshine during the winter solstice. But the city also experiences more than 18 hours of visible sunshine during the summer solstice and has a mild climate in the summer. It receives around 26mm of precipitation during dry March with an average precipitation of 76mm in August.

- Uppsala University
Founded in 1477, Uppsala University is the first school in Scandinavia. Having produced as many as six Nobel Prize winners, including Linnaeus, the school is widely recognized for a variety of academic achievements made by its graduates. With an inion by the poet Thomas Throild, “To think free is great; to think right is greater,” at the entrance, the school library holds a large number of ancient and rare books. The university curriculum is composed of eight departments: religion, law, medicine, pharmacy, linguistics, history, philosophy, and social sciences and pedagogy, and offers more than 40 educational programs and over 1,200 subjects. With a number of foreign students from 30 countries, the school has 2,500 postdoctoral students and produces around 250 and 80 graduates with doctor’s and master’s degrees, respectively, every year.
- Uppsala Castle
This castle is located on the highest point of Uppsala and was built during the Dark Ages. Gustav Eriksson Vasa built it in 1540. It was renovated in the 18th century.
- Linne Museum
This place served as a house and a laboratory for Linnaeus, the world-famous botanist and Nobel winner. He started to teach at the Uppsala University in 1738, and many students gathered to take his lectures. He fell in class in 1774 and died in 1778. He developed the system of classification for plants. The museum holds many of his belongings and paintings by Uppsala’ s artists.
