Section 5 (Gyejoksanseonggil Trail) : Daejeon, the city of fortresses.

Bonghwangjeong Pavilion, located at the summit of Mt. Gyejoksan, is presumed to have been named after Mt. Bonghwangsan which was the name of Mt. Gyejoksan in the past.
Mt. Gyejoksan is an old name from the history of Korea, and according to the story that has been passed down, it was called Bisuri because when this mountain cried during severe drought, it would rain heavily.
The sunset seen from Mt. Gyejoksan’s Bonghwangjeong Pavilion is one of the Eight Most Popular and Beautiful Sights of Daejeon.
When you think of Mt. Gyejoksan, Gyejoksanseong Fortress is the first thing that comes to mind, which shows just how many fortress walls represented by Gyejoksanseong Fortress can be seen in Section 5 in Daejeon.
There are more than 10 if Samjeongdongsanseong Fortress, Galhyeonseong, Neungseong fortress connected to Jilhyeonseong, and small forts considered to be branch castles are counted.
This makes Section 5 the optimal fortress hiking course where visitors can enjoy Daejeon, the city of fortresses.

Section 5 course is generally gentle, so it’s not tough and the trail is well maintained.
From the middle part of the section, visitors can view the magnificent Daecheonghosu Lake on the right and the urban district of Daejeon on the left.
In the vicinity of Section 5, Biryong-dong Julgoljangseong, Namganjeongsa, Birae-dong Dolmen, Okryugak, Biraesa Temple, Dongchundang, Song Yong-eok House, Ssangcheongdang, Songaedang and many other cultural properties can be found.
