The LEE Donghoon Art Award was established to honor the artistic spirit of the artist LEE Donghoon, who was a representative artist and educator of Korea's modern and contemporary era
and contributed greatly to the formation of the art base in Daejeon and Chungcheong regions. This award greatly enhances the capacity of local artists, instills self-esteem, and contributes to
establishing the status of Daejeon Art.

In particular, The 17th LEE Dong-hoon Art Award is even more meaningful because a professional steering committee selected artists who presented the dynamism and future of Korean
contemporary art as well as matching the uniqueness and future of this award.

This exhibition proudly present two artists, PARK Jungsun and YOON Kyounglim, who are the winners of The 17th LEE Donghoon Art Award – Special Prize. 'Local Art' is an intangible value
and tangible evidence formed by artists who originate in the region and this soon becomes its' ‘Identity'. In this regard, PARK and YOON have been establishing the identity of ’Present of
Daejeon Art’ in their own way.

Although these two artists applies different figurative languages, we can discover the life that we live in and build consensus. This exhibition will not only serve as a momentum for new
transformation and development of local art, but will also present a valuable discourse on Korean contemporary art.

PARK Jungsun
When you access www.parkjungsun.com, PARK Jungsun introduces herself as a ‘Media Artist’.
In general, a media artist is defined as a person who applies technical products such as TV, computer, and camera to art, or uses technology that has a large ripple effect on the public in the production of artwork. In fact, media art is an art that spans as broad a range as the term is used.
On the other hand, if media is a word for material, it can be interpreted as 'Artwork = Media Art' because all existing works of art are embodied by material media.

One of her representative works <Inner sound> allows a viewer to explore the relationship between Technology-Art, Artwork-Viewer, and Sensation-Perception by naturally inducing movement when a viewer step into the installation space. <Microorganic Sound> is a work designed to convert signals captured from microorganisms into sound and to interact with a viewer and microorganisms through the sound. The signals of microorganisms cultivated by the artist are converted into sounds, and these sounds are transformed through the movement of a viewer. As a result, viewers and artworks can be connected and resonated through this sound energy.

It is true that most media art works today place more emphasis on the possibility of a technical platform rather than an artistic message.
Yet, what PARK ultimately pursues through her works is to share aesthetic and social concerns in a virtual space that she created with digital technology.
Also to connect art, society, and humans. In other words, ‘Media Art’ she builds is a link that goes beyond the abyss between existence and being, and is a ‘Media’ that leads to a new world.

YOON Kyounglim
YOON Kyounglim steadily focuses on painting even in the flow of contemporary art where various genre changes are being attempted.
Perhaps, in contemporary art, the painting area, which is gradually becoming non-mainstream, leads to a unique originality and continuous research and a new formative world.
The artist works on the theme of a cube for a long time and creates another world.

Cube is an composed of 12 lines, in which a plane and a three-dimensional coexist. YOON's work began with a methodology that recognizes this small as the beginning of
all s and spaces and explores it.

In order to express the solid on the plane, YOON studies composition of colors and use it as a formative element in the coloring process.
She first set the specified tone as one space, paint it several times, add a background and a subject, and then pile up colors to express the cube.
She recognizes the space produced by these superimposed cubes as a universe, subjects as life, and pays attention to their structural reactions and interactivity.
As a result, unlike the early days when the purity of painting and the simplicity of modeling stood out, the depth of time and space is added.

YOON Kyounglim’s work is the result of accumulated time and labor she has been through.
It is also a trace of practice to continue constant conversation with herself and to recognize her own existence and the world as an artist, mother and wife,
and a woman who is living in today’s world.
