Daedeok Innopolis (Daedeok R&D Special Zone) is composed of 28 government-initiated research centers as well as 79 research institutes with as many as 20,000 researchers. They have been developing world-class technologies which have been leading in the nation¡¯ economic growth for the past 30 years.
In addition, Daejeon established the WTA (World Technopolis Association) in 1998 with the view of realizing regional development through international cooperation with world science cities.
Currently the WTA has grown to be aninternational organization with 67 members from 32 countries and it is involved in active cooperation with many international organizations as UNESCO¡¯ official consultative body.

Colleges as well as the headquarters of the army, navy and airforce located in the adjacent area. Moreover, a new ¡°ulti-functional Administrative City¡±(is being built nearby and 18 major government offices will begin to move into the city starting in 2012.

Currently, twelve national government offices and services including the Korea Customs Service, the Public Procurement Service, the Military Manpower Administration, the Korea Forest Service, the Cultural Heritage Administration, the National Statistical Office, the Korean Intellectual Properties Office as well as the Small and Medium Business Administration are located in Daejeon.
Daejeon serves as an administration and national defense hub with the Daejeon Government Complex and Military, Naval and Airforce Staff.
