Calgary is an attractive and dynamic city. Situated on the banks of the Bow and Elbow Rivers near Alberta's majestic Rocky Mountains, Calgary's diverse landscape lends itself to a variety of things to do and places to see. The Calgary Stampede is probably Calgary's best-known attraction. This event, featuring a large parade and world-class rodeo, draws more than a million people each year. Other attractions, including the Glenbow Museum, Calgary Tower, Canada Olympic Park and Eau Claire Market, are great places to visit year-round.

The weather in Calgary varies quite dramatically, from extreme cold in the winter, to heat waves exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) in the summer. The big freezes would be worse if it weren't for periodic "Chinook winds" of warm air from the mountains which can cause the temperature to rise by more than 60 degrees Fahrenheit (16 degrees Celsius) in just a few hours. Daytime and nighttime temperatures can also differ widely due to Calgary's dry air and its proximity to the mountains. In the summer, overnight temperatures often drop close to freezing, yet can be back to scorching hot by noon.

Canada Olympic Park: This was the premiere site of freestyle skiing, bobsleigh, luge and ski jumping events during the 1988 Olympic Winter Games. Try the expanded snowboard halfpipe or luge and bobsleigh rides. Rentals are available, as well as lessons for all ages and abilities.
