Daedeok Science town |
| The Korean Government began the construction of Daedeok Science Town in 1973, On an area of 27.8 km², at the cost of 30 trillion Korean won funded by the national government and private businesses. Currently, it is famous for many world-class research results, registering around 30,000 patens in korea and abroad. |
| There are 232 research and educational research institutes including 18 government supported research institutes, private research institutes of 29 big business, and government supported research institutes. |
| Around 18,000 researchers are working in Daedeok Science Town, with 5,000 researchers holding doctorate degrees(as of June 2003). This town is dubbed as the "town of doctors" |
| Educational institutes located in Daedeok Science Town including the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(KAIST), Information and communications University(ICU), and Chungnam National University supply highly-qualified research work force to Daedeok Valley. |

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI) commercially introduced Code Division Multiple Access(CDMA), one of the two wireless telecommunication technologies.
• Hanaro Reactor Development
Korean standard-set reactor developed by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI)
• Successful launching of the liquid-propellant scientific rocket KSR-Ⅲ, independently developed b the Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI), and a multipurpose practical satellite KOMSAT-1.
• The Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology(KRIBB) completed the chimpanzee genome mapping and has found 14,000 human genes.
* The Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science developed a world-class technology of thin film interface analysis, setting a new standard in this field. |
